We at Stellenbosch University, located in the Western Cape's Boland region, are delighted to share insights into our active role in the Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) project. Home to a diverse student body of 32,500 from over 100 countries, our university stands as a beacon of higher education near Cape Town.
The Stellenbosch University Water Institute (SUWI) is at the forefront of the CoVE pro0ject, focusing on regional development and fostering partnerships between the private sector and Boland College, West Coast TVET College, and Lovedale TVET College. Our expertise in water efficiency and climate-smart agriculture, combined with extensive networks with TVET colleges and policy makers like the SA Ministry of Education, QCTO, Agri-SETA, and EWSETA, fuels this project.
Our international collaborations extend across EU institutions, notably with the Netherlands, supported by the Dutch Ministry for Foreign Affairs. From 2019 to 2023, we have worked alongside the Maastricht School of Management and six TVET colleges to bolster skills in water usage optimization and climate-smart agriculture. Partnering with our Faculty of AgriSciences, SUWI has been involved in Orange Knowledge Program (OKP) Tailor-Made Training in horticulture with Dutch institutions, enhancing our educational outreach.
As part of the EU-funded Platform of Vocational Excellence in Water, our goal extends to establishing a CoVE in Water in South Africa. The experiences and networks from these diverse projects are invaluable in implementing the European CoVE model in South Africa, enriching vocational excellence and sustainable practices.
We appreciate your continued support as we stride towards a brighter, more sustainable future in vocational education and water management.
Warm regards,
Stellenbosch University Water Institute Team
