On 9 May, Mr Madau of the South African Pork Producers’ Organisation (SAPPO) delivered a guest lecture to students enrolled in the National N-Diploma in Farming Management and Mechanisation at Boland College. Emerging farmers from the Breede Valley district also joined the event at the Worcester Campus.
Mr Madau’s presentation focused on pig production principles and market trends related to the pork value chain. This coincides with the mandate of SAPPO to enable and facilitate a sustainable and profitable pork value chain by supporting people development. SAPPO also provides strategic direction and specialised services for this sector.
This event took place as an activity of the Centre of Vocational Excellence at Boland College, an initiative of the European-funded Erasmus+ programme. The CoVE hub strives to assist society to be able to become more self-sufficient by equipping agricultural students and practitioners with practical skills.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Madau and SAPPO for generously sharing their valuable knowledge and industry expertise with our students and emerging farmers.
